I’m living in London - and Paris! - for awhile this good year of 2023.
I’m up to my eyebrows in this parade -
CITY. SCENE. ANTHROPOCENE.
Experiencing glimmers in a very small amount of time of something that archeologists call, ‘Ground truthing’ -which Robert Macfarlane says is that ‘by walking and riding the landscape in person over many years- and in this way gathering first-hand local data…’ perspective is gained. Cognition is acquired. ‘It’s a three-dimensional VISION of Britain.’
I sense this with all of my BEing. There’s a smell in this Work - more than of soil and steam, and rock and squared stones, pavement and rain and River; a fragrance lovelier than the daphne bush in St. John’s garden- I smell FREEDOM.
